Current Reading: Sherlock Holmes Collection – The Sign of The Four

Last time I updated my reading list was five months ago on Obama’s first book. During this five months, I also finished Type Talk at Work, and began to read novels. Sherlock Holmes Collection is the series that I always wanted to read but felt too costly to buy the paper version of it. After I got my Kindle in July, it was the first book I downloaded.

The first novel, A Study in Scarlet, has a surprising long portion of romance. At some point in the story, I almost wonder whether I reading Sherlock Holmes or just a romance story. But in the second novel, The Sign of The Four, Conan Doyle quickly remarked, through the voice of Sherlock Holmes: “You have attempted to tinge it with romanticism, which produces much the same effect as if you worked love-story or an elopement into the fifth proposition of Euclid.” I am not against romanticism, just feel the same as Sherlock that it was disproportionately long in the first story.
